The Urban League of Westchester Encourages the Community to Secure Quality Healthcare Solutions During Open Enrollment Period.

As the Open Enrollment Period for health coverage in 2023 commences, the Urban League of Westchester is committed to empowering the community to access and enroll in quality healthcare plans through the Marketplace. Open Enrollment serves as an essential window for individuals and families to enroll in, re-enroll in, or alter their health insurance plans for the upcoming year.

Key Dates for Open Enrollment:

  • November 1: Open Enrollment begins for health coverage for the next plan year. This marks the first day individuals can enroll in, re-enroll in, or change health plans through the Marketplace. Coverage can start as early as January 1.
  • December 15: Deadline for enrollment or plan changes for coverage to begin on January 1.
  • January 1: Coverage starts for those who enroll or make changes by December 15 and pay their initial premium.
  • January 15: Open Enrollment concludes. It is the last day to enroll in or adjust health plans for the year. After this date, individuals can enroll or change plans only if they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
  • February 1: Coverage begins for individuals who enroll or change plans between December 16 and January 15, upon payment of their first premium.

Eligibility for Marketplace Coverage:

  • Individuals residing in the United States.
  • U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawfully present non-citizens in the U.S.
  • Those not incarcerated and not covered under Medicare.

What Marketplace Plans Offer:

  • Essential Health Benefits: All Marketplace plans cover 10 essential health benefits, including prescription drugs, emergency services, hospitalization, laboratory services, mental health, and substance use disorder services.
  • Free Preventive Health Services: Receive free preventive health services within your plan's network.
  • Pre-existing Conditions: Coverage for pre-existing conditions is included.

How to Apply:

  • Apply online, by phone, through an agent/broker, with the help of community assistance, via certified enrollment partner websites, or through a paper application. Find more details here.

Payment Information:

  • Pay premiums directly to the insurance company to initiate coverage. Coverage will not begin until the first premium is paid.
